A History Month for ALL Women

Did you know March spells WOMEN? Maybe not, but it should! During this month, the world will celebrate Women's History Month and International Women's Day.

Embrace Equity

This year's International Women's Day (IWD) theme is Embrace Equity. IWD's website says this means a "... gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated."

We couldn't agree more and want to help celebrate the achievements and contributions of ALL women. Not just the courageous Rosa Parks, Judith Heumann, Wilma Mankiller, Amelia Boynton, and others, but holding space for the work of transgender and non-binary leaders and advocates like Dr. Pragati Singh, Jennicet Gutierrez, Deborah Batts, Sarah McBride, and Kim Coco Iwamoto.

Let's Not Forget

Despite the advancements of these fantastic women, sexism, misogyny, and discrimination still exist today. We see it playing out in popular culture and statehouses across the country, where a record number of laws and policies are aimed at transgender youth and their families. Unfortunately, we've also witnessed the darkest side and will continue to hold victims of fatal anti-transgender violence, which disproportionately targets transgender women of color, in our hearts.

Moving Forward

By embracing equity, we can ensure women worldwide have the right to live their truth, continue to shatter glass ceilings and find their voice and the courage to use it. So let's continue to inspire women to break down stereotypes, advocate for equality, and address discrimination head-on. We have a lot to celebrate this month, so let's take a moment to cheer on women's progress while recognizing there's still much more each of us can do.
